WRI


	War Resisters' International was founded in 1921 on the basis that:

War is a crime against humanity. I am therefore determined not to support any kind of war and to strive for the removal of all causes of war.

It began cooperating with peace groups in Yugoslavia in the 1980s and has had close links with groups in Yugoslavia's successor states. Three are affiliated to WRI:

the Antiwar Campaign of Croatia (ARK),Women in Black, BelgradePokret za Mir, Pancevo.

WRI was also one of the founding members of the Balkan Peace Team, a project sending international volunteers to Croatia and the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.

Since its beginnings in 1991, the Antiwar Campaign Croatia (ARK) has grown into a network of 20 independent, non-governmental and non-partisan organisations and projects throughout Croatia

ARK stands for the protection of human rights and the development of human liberties. It rejects violence, and especially war, as a method of conflict transformation among individuals, groups and states. ARK works against the militarisation of society by promoting nonviolence.

ARK is currently working in establishing communication in post-war areas, such as Lika, Kordun, and Slavonija, while simultaneously encouraging the normalisation process through their work with the media. By supporting citizens initiatives in urban and rural areas, the ARK network helps build an autonomous civil society in Croatia.
