	Croatia, a land of unpeace in a region ravaged by war, is an appropriate venue for a conference bringing together peace activists from every continent. In the past seven years, peace activists throughout the Balkans have accumulated experience in the whole range of peace work:




		from resisting the calls to arms to counsellingthose dealing with the impact of war;

	from speaking out truth against injustice to helping people live with each other as neighbours;

	from sustaining themselves through hard times to encouraging others to assert their own power and challenge the demagogues of xenophobia and authoritarianism


	The WRI Triennial will bring together these peaceworkers with their counterparts from many other countries and every continent for an exchange of experience and vision, and to work out new strategies of cooperation.

War Resisters' International is a worldwide network of independent organisations, groups and individuals, who not only resist against war, but struggle for the removal of all causes of war. In doing this, WRI embraces nonviolence, which includes a wide range of activities from, active resistance to constructive work in building alternatives.

A WRI Triennial conference serves as a meeting place for people committed to nonviolence and to creating a world without war and oppression.

It is a place to make contacts and to strengthen existing links.

It is a forum to compare experiences and stimulate each other's thinking.
